The New Real Madrid Safety Car: BMW M5 Touring

Real Madrid has a new car—more specifically, a new Safety Car. Yes, you read that right, just like in Formula 1. So, what exactly is Real Madrid’s Safety Car? Let us explain and show you.

BMW is Real Madrid’s official sponsor—the one that provides cars for the players—and also supplies a car that acts as a “safety car” for the team bus on match days at the Santiago Bernabéu. It drives ahead of the bus (we’re not sure if it’s the vehicle where Real Madrid TV mounts the camera that broadcasts the bus’s journey to the stadium live).

Previously, that car was a BMW XM SUV. But now—maybe because Real Madrid needs a miracle against Arsenal—they’ve taken the opportunity to switch things up and unveil a more spectacular model: the BMW M5 Touring, custom-tuned with BMW Motorsport colors (white, red, and blue) and featuring the slogan “Rethink the Game,” which refers to a joint initiative between the club and the German brand.

    A Beast on Wheels

We wish the car itself could play, because it’s an absolute powerhouse. It boasts 727 horsepower from a spectacular twin-turbo V8 engine. But it’s also a hybrid, meaning it includes an electric motor that allows it to drive up to 69 kilometers in fully electric mode. Thanks to its hybrid classification, it can park for free around the Bernabéu (although it usually heads straight to the stadium’s parking lot).

And the “Safety Car” label isn’t just a marketing gimmick—it’s the official Safety Car for this season’s MotoGP World Championship, where it plays a key role on race weekends.
