It was a strong rumor this summer—Madrid was going to sign Franco Mastantuono from River Plate. The player is 17 years old, so he will have to wait until he turns 18 to join, which will be on August 14 (meaning he will play the Club World Cup with River Plate).
The transfer will cost €63.2 million, taking into account that the player’s €45 million release clause must be supplemented with taxes. River Plate has confirmed all the figures and the structure of the transfer on its official website.
The Argentine club will receive €45 million, and the rest will be divided as follows: €11.8 million to the Spanish tax authorities, €1.4 million to the Players’ Union (Futbolistas Agremiados), €0.9 million to AFA Structural Funds, €3.6 million under Decree 510/2023, and €0.5 million in other fees.
The president of Club Atlético River Plate, Jorge Brito, has revealed the details of the Mastantuono deal with Real Madrid: “€20 million now, €12.5 million in June 2026, and €12.5 million in June 2027.”
Real Madrid C.F. announces that Franco Mastantuono will be a player of our club for the next six seasons, from August 14, 2025, to June 30, 2031.
Mastantuono developed in River Plate’s youth academy from 2019 to 2024 and was part of the first team in the 2024–2025 season. In February 2024, he became the youngest goalscorer in River Plate’s history, with whom he has won an Argentine Super Cup.
At just 17 years old, he is also the youngest player ever to appear in an official match for the Argentine national team.
