This past Saturday, PSG finally won their first-ever Champions League title (crushing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final). Leading them was coach Luis Enrique, who also achieved the treble for the second time (league, cup, and Champions League). Only two managers in history have done it: Pep Guardiola and now Luis Enrique.
Interestingly, some people may not know that Luis Enrique was a player for Barcelona… but also for Real Madrid. Yes, before joining Barcelona, he played for Real Madrid. He spent five years there and even scored one of the goals in the famous 5-0 win over Barcelona (in which Zamorano scored a hat trick).
However, ever since he moved to Barcelona, his rivalry with Real Madrid intensified to the maximum — a kind of “reverse Figo” situation, where Madrid fans began to “hate” him, and he in turn “hated” Real Madrid, criticizing the club whenever he had the chance.
As a coach, that rivalry remained just as intense — especially after he won the treble, which really “hurt” Madrid fans that season.
But surprisingly, Real Madrid posted a tweet yesterday congratulating him on winning the Champions League. It read:
“Congratulations to PSG and their fans for their well-deserved 2024–2025 Champions League title. And our most special congratulations to our beloved Luis Enrique, with a heartfelt and emotional remembrance of his daughter Xana.”
Enhorabuena al @PSG_inside y a su afición por su merecida Champions League 2024-2025. Y nuestra felicitación más especial para nuestro querido Luis Enrique, con un emocionado y cariñoso recuerdo para su hija Xana.

Luis Enrique didn’t take long to respond, saying:
“I didn’t expect it, but it really touched me — I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
