Carvajal delivers the opening speech for the San Isidro festivities

Dani Carvajal delivers the opening speech for the San Isidro festivities (Madrid mainly festivities) from the balcony of Madrid’s Casa de la Villa

Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, born in the Madrid suburb of Leganés, was chosen to give the opening address for the San Isidro festivities. Speaking proudly from the iconic balcony, he said:

“Today I stand on this balcony not as an athlete, but as just another citizen. And above all, as a grateful madrileño. Grateful for the honor of being the town crier for my city — one of those gifts life gives you.”

Carvajal highlighted the welcoming spirit of the Spanish capital:

“In Madrid, you become a madrileño over time — through its people, through your drive. Here, no one asks where you’re from, but rather where you’re headed. And once you understand that, you become part of something that can’t quite be put into words.”

Proud to represent Madrid and Real Madrid

“I know this because I feel it and I see it every day — in my people and, I have to say it (sorry, Mr. Mayor), also every time I put on the Real Madrid shirt and step onto the Bernabéu pitch. Because representing this club also means representing this city: its ambition, its history, its refusal to settle, and its constant drive to reach for the top.”

The speech ended with a heartfelt tribute to the city that shaped him:

“Madrid is energy, it’s diversity, it’s generosity. It’s that force that drives you forward, even when the road gets steep. It’s a city that welcomes you, challenges you, transforms you. This city has a bright future ahead, full of opportunities. It knows no limits, and it sets no boundaries. And we, its people, are the ones who must keep helping it grow.”

“To finish, let me close with a phrase that never loses its power, because it captures everything we feel for this city: From Madrid to heaven!
