As every true Madridista knows, our temple, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, has been under renovation for years. The improvements have been massive, and the work is still ongoing.
We love following the progress every day. Many YouTubers document the renovations (their videos are in Spanish, but you can enable subtitles on YouTube). However, don’t worry—we will keep you updated with all the latest news about the Bernabéu renovations on this website.
Major renovations already completed:
- Complete transformation of the stadium’s façade with steel slats.
- Retractable roof covering the stadium.
- Hypogeum: A system that allows the pitch to be stored underground in six movable trays.
- First 360° LED ring inside the stadium.
- Giant 360° video scoreboard at the top of the stadium.
- New restaurants inside the stadium.
- Massive official Adidas store within the stadium.
What’s still to be completed:
- Second 360° LED ring, replacing the current old signage that reads “Real Madrid.”
- Several new restaurants are yet to open (for example, KO by 99 Sushi Bar, a Japanese restaurant, will debut on Monday, March 17. Plaza Mahou, Arzábal, and Puerta 57 are already open).
- Skybar yet to be inaugurated.
- Skywalk, a walkway included in the Bernabéu tour, allowing visitors to walk above the stadium with stunning views of Madrid.
- Real Madrid badge and “Bernabéu” name still need to be installed on the façade of the stadium facing Paseo de la Castellana.
- Exterior lighting for the façade is yet to be completed.
- Underground parking construction on the Castellana side is currently halted due to legal issues. If resumed, work will continue; otherwise, the street will be reopened.
- Street renovations around the stadium, with only two completed so far.
- Finishing of the concrete slab (which covers the pitch when it is stored underground), aiming for a more aesthetically pleasing finish.
- Final interior details and minor improvements within the stadium.
- Soundproofing? Noise complaints from neighbors have led to concert cancellations (before that, Taylor Swift held two concerts). Real Madrid has hired the company behind The Sphere in Las Vegas to work on soundproofing, but those renovations are yet to start.
There’s still plenty to be done, meaning the stadium is improving every single day.
In this video from one of the top YouTubers covering the renovations, RealMadrid1902, you can see some of the latest details. He often walks around the stadium and takes the Bernabéu tour, providing an inside look at the pitch and the concrete slab.
This video captures something unique, the process of clossing the hypogeum (after put inside the 6 blocks of natural grass).
