Real Madrid beats Celta led by Arda Güler and Mbappé

Real Madrid 3 – Celta de Vigo 2, with goals from Mbappé (2) and Arda Güler. It was a misleading match, as Madrid dominated most of the time but things got complicated at the end.

After many games without having a full week to rest in between, Madrid was finally able to properly prepare for this match, and the result showed in fresher and better-coordinated players.

Ancelotti opted for a 4-4-2 instead of the usual 4-3-3, sacrificing Rodrygo, who, in fact, was ruled out at the last minute due to a fever. He played Arda Güler and Dani Ceballos in midfield (alongside Valverde and Bellingham), which definitely brought more solidity and dynamism to the team’s play.

Arda Güler himself opened the scoring with a stunning goal to make it 1-0 and led Real Madrid with his quality. He also delivered a brilliant assist to Mbappé and created several other chances, including dangerous corners that his teammates almost capitalized on.

Mbappé was also on fire today, scoring two goals and could have had more. He looked more active and dynamic, seemingly fully recovered from his injury.

Tchouaméni continues to improve, despite having to play as a defender again due to injuries. He received several ovations at the Bernabéu for his strong performance and has been one of Madrid’s best players in recent weeks. Ancelotti took a bit of a risk by playing him since he was one yellow card away from missing El Clásico, but fortunately, he didn’t receive one.

    Jacobo Ramón unlucky again

With the score at 3-0, the match seemed decided and calm, so Ancelotti used the moment to bring on Jacobo Ramón, seemingly to replace Tchouaméni to avoid a possible booking, but he ended up coming on for Asensio.

In his previous appearances, Jacobo hadn’t had much luck and hadn’t left the best impressions—and something similar happened today. After coming on with the score at 3-0, Celta quickly pulled it back to 3-2 with two goals in which Jacobo was involved and could have done more to prevent. To make matters worse, he also got a yellow card.

It could’ve been worse—Celta had chances to make it 3-3 at the end, which would have directly handed the title to Barcelona if they were to win El Clásico.

We maintain a 4-point gap, and now we head into the decisive Clásico final next Sunday, May 11 at 16:15. If we win, we close the gap to just 1 point with 3 matches remaining—and on paper, Barcelona’s final three games are tougher: Espanyol, Villarreal, and Athletic Club. If Real Madrid manages to win their last four games and Barcelona slips up in any of theirs, we could still win the league.
