Mbappé’s First Interview in Spain on El Objetivo of La Sexta

There aren’t many interviews with Real Madrid players on Spanish television (aside from Real Madrid TV and documentaries, of course), but we’re lucky that this Sunday at 9:30 PM, a long interview will premiere on the program El Objetivo of La Sexta (one of Spain’s major television networks). You will be able to watch it here.

Update (07/04/2025): The interview was broadcast on TV yesterday, you can already watch it on the website (link here). I think it asks you to sign up, but it’s free — you just register and it should let you watch the full 40 minutes interview.

The interview is conducted by journalist Ana Pastor, known for her intense and direct interviews, so it will likely be very interesting to hear Kylian Mbappé’s answers and insights—how he’s feeling, how his first months at Real Madrid have been, and more.

The interview was recorded at the Santiago Bernabéu, though it’s unclear if any parts were filmed in other locations as well.

The show’s social media accounts have already shared a few short clips of the interview, as you can see in these videos, where Mbappé is asked how he’s feeling and about his relationship with Vinicius:

Kylian Mbappé: “Since I was a kid, I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid”

Kylian Mbappé gave his first interview in Spain — and in Spanish, showing not only his commitment to his new country but also the maturity and clarity with which he is embracing this chapter. From his childhood dreams of wearing white to his current life at the Bernabéu, the French striker shared personal reflections, anecdotes, and perspectives that go far beyond football.

Here’s a recap of the best moments from the interview.

🌍 Arrival in Spain: “I feel the love here”

Mbappé started by sharing his first impressions of life in Madrid:

“I’m really liking the people in Spain — they’re very open. I’m French and they always help me. I feel the love here in Madrid and in Spain.”

He also talked about the importance of adapting and learning the language:

“This is my first interview in Spain, and in Spanish. It’s an effort you need to make when you arrive in a new country.”

Although he admits he’s still learning:

“Now that I speak a bit of Spanish, people talk to me way too fast… but it’s fine.”

And of course, he didn’t forget the food:

“I really like Spanish food, especially jamón. I don’t cook though!”

🏟 The Real Madrid Dream: “It was a dream — now it’s real”

From a young age, Mbappé had a clear goal in mind:

“Since I was a kid, I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid. It was a dream and still is — every single day. I try to enjoy it as much as possible.”

“When I was 12 or 13, I met Zidane at Valdebebas and wore the shirt for the first time. I knew I’d come back one day.”

But he knew the right moment had to come:

“With my family, we felt it wasn’t the right time. I wasn’t ready. Madrid wanted me, but at 12, it was better to stay in France with my friends and family. I think it was the right choice.”

🧠 Mindset and Personal Choices: “You have to decide for yourself”

Mbappé made it clear that while he listens to advice, he always follows his own judgment:

“You have to listen to people, but in the end, you have to decide for yourself.”

He also spoke about his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez:

“I’ve always had a good relationship with him. Even when I told him I was staying in Paris, he showed me affection. He’s always had kind words for me.”

And on his signing for Madrid, he was very clear:

“There are more important things than money. I wanted to play for Real Madrid. The most important thing is to be happy — on the pitch and in life. I knew I’d be happy in Madrid.”

    👪 Family, Values and Education

Family plays a huge role in Mbappé’s life, and that showed in his words:

“I talk a lot with my family — football with my dad, life and the human side of things with my mom.”

On criticism that his mother is “too tough”:

“People don’t like seeing women involved in football. My agent isn’t my mom — she just wants the best for her son. She always asks what I want. We’re a very close family.”

“She wasn’t tough — it’s just how I was raised. I never felt it was harsh. They just wanted the best for me.”

He also spoke of protecting his younger brother:

“My brother is a professional footballer and I didn’t want him to go through suffering.”

🧠 Mental Health and Social Media: “Before a footballer, I’m a human being”

One of the most honest parts of the interview came when he addressed mental health:

“I know people who suffer from depression. I didn’t want people to say I had it just because I played badly — it’s a serious topic.”

“Many people in football have a hard time handling it. Before being footballers or famous, we all have our own pain.”

“I don’t check social media or the news — I don’t care. We live in a protected bubble, but the people close to us do suffer. It affects them.”

🧤 Presentation & Debut: “The longest 5 minutes of my life”

He won’t ever forget the day of his presentation at the Bernabéu:

“I was nervous in the tunnel. I was alone for five minutes… the longest five minutes of my life. The president was speaking, and I had to wait. Then Zidane showed up — what a surprise.”

About his current coach Carlo Ancelotti, he had high praise:

“Ancelotti is a bit of everything — a father, a friend, a coach. He’s a legend. He’s made history and wants to keep making it.”

🤝 Vini, Cristiano and the Madrid Attack

His relationship with Vinícius Jr. looks promising:

“My relationship with Vini is really good. It’s normal that people expect a lot from us. We’ll try to give Madrid the best we can.”

And about his idols and playing style:

“Cristiano knew how to play in all three attacking positions. I can play all three too. It’s not about the position, it’s about how you connect with the game.”

“My first goal at the Bernabéu has been my most important moment with Real Madrid so far.”

🏆 More Than the Ballon d’Or

Mbappé is focused on collective glory, not individual accolades:

“The Champions League is way more important than the Ballon d’Or. Goals matter, but what matters most are trophies. I want to win the Cup, La Liga, the Champions League — everything possible.”

He also said he follows women’s football:

“I follow women’s football — especially the French national team and PSG. At Real Madrid, I know the women’s team, and also Barcelona.”

🎉 Celebrations, Giving Back & Legacy

The meaning behind his goal celebration:

“The goal celebration comes from my little brother — it was like a salute to him. The rest is just for fun with my friends.”

Beyond the pitch, he wants to make a difference:

“I’ve been very lucky in my career. That’s why I created my foundation for children. It’s not something you talk about — you just do it. I want to help as many kids as possible.”

“We have to learn to live together — that’s the main message of my foundation. Everyone has their own story, but we can live together.”

    🔚 The Future is White

Mbappé ended the interview with a sentence that sums up his mindset:

“I want to leave a mark at Real Madrid. Right now, I’m only thinking about Madrid.”
